"Back-pay"

Have anyone of you heard of this word "back-pay"? It's suppose to be the opposite of "pre-pay". I learnt of this interesting word from my present company. Due to the incapability of the Admin Department's Head, they will announce the promotion of staff late and "back-pay" their pay; at the same time, they will also announce that the staff has been promoted with effective from a date which was earlier than the announcement date. So, it's like a "back-pay" title too. So to the staff who got promoted, he/she would be thinking "damn, I was already promoted 2 weeks ago and I didn't know it!" This is really idiotic.

Another Hazy, Lazy Sunday

Moving from MySpace, I have decided to start another blog and this time making it as anonymous as I can possibly do. No more photos of me, no more actual names of my loved ones and friends, just genuine feelings and thoughts I have everyday.
I first woke up today to the familiar handphone alarm tone and thought for awhile if I needed to go to work today..."no, it's Sunday!" Then hubby asked if I would like to have MacDonald's for breakfast, "no darling, don't bother, go back to sleep..." Then I was dreaming away, weird dreams mainly, most of which I don't really remember.
I finally woke up at 1:25pm and switched on the TV (daily ritual), it was still on Discovery Animal Planet channel from last night, and it was showing a documentary on giraffes. They are just such beautiful elegant giants, aren't they? I was reminded of our last trip to the Xiangjiang Safari Park in Panyu with the kids where we fed the giraffes up close. It was our first time and as with all first-times, it was exciting and memorable. The kids enjoyed themselves and so did hubby and I.
Then the documentary showed the delivery process of a giraffe baby...the front legs came out first, followed by the head, the long neck, the body and then "plop", the whole baby giraffe came out and dropped onto the floor. I wondered if the mother giraffe will feel the same kind of excruciating as us human mothers feel when we are delivering our babies? The most amazing thing was the fact that the baby giraffe was up and walking within 2 hours of its birth! Most of us human babies can't walk on our own within the first year of our lives and we are suppose to be the "superior species"? This world is just so full of contradictions....

At 2pm, Ping, my manicurist came to give me my monthly manicure at the comfort of my home. This has become my monthly indulgence after coming to stay in Hong Kong and I usually schedule it on Sundays. Hubby went to get brunch (MacDonald's) and I sat there in the living room couch watching a Stephen Chow's movie and having my nails manicured. The air was hazy outside and I am feeling lazy...definitely not going out today, I'm just gonna laze around, watch TV, blog and then maybe have a nice hot tub bath before going to sleep tonight. This is how a Sunday should be spent.
