What I love about my hubby...

We were watching "Just Go With It" last night on HBO and I particularly like the part when the two main casts, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston were asked to say the things that they love about each other. It was so romantic! I asked my hubby immediately if he can say things like that when asked the same, he thought for a moment, chuckled and leaned over to give me a kiss on my face. Nope, he couldn't. And I started to wonder to myself..."What about me?" So I decided that I shall start thinking seriously all the things, small and big that I love about my hubby and start putting them down!

1) I love the way he looks and smells.
2) I love his panda eyes and how our son resembles him.
3) I love that we can talk about anything and everything unpretentiously.
4) I love that I always know what he was going to say before he said it and he will be like "Damn!  How did you do that?!"
5) I love that he accepts me as who I am and never try to change me.
6) I love that he will wake up in the middle of the night, kiss me, fondle me and then goes back to sleep and not remembering any of that the next morning!
7) I love that he can always point out my mistakes at bowling but then when I bowl well, he doesn't take the credit but just jokes "that's not my wife!"
8) I love that out of the blue he will have some crazy cravings for some foods so randomly.
9) I love that he is always so amazed or proud of his crap literally.
10) I love his sense of humour and jokes, never fail to make me laugh or roll my eyes.
11) I love to run my hands through his thick hair and loose my fingers in them.
12) I love that he doesn't snore when he sleeps.
13) I love how he cried when his pet lobster died. He hadn't even dare pick that little fellow up once with his bare hands when it was alive! LOL!
14) I love how he also loves dogs like I do and how he had chosen Coffee.
15) I love the way he speaks Cantonese.
16) I love how he can make old folks like him.
17) I love how he is such a buddy with D, especially when it comes to eating all kinds of junk foods together.
18) I love that we MSN each other everyday while at work.
And the list will go on...but most important of all, I love the way he makes me feel...like I can be a better person as long as he is with me.

A reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan to a pretty girl seeking a rich husband

A reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan to a pretty girl seeking a rich husband
I read this from a friend's sharing on facebook and I found it really intriguing so I decide to share it here on my blog....

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:

Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?

...
I'm going to be honest of what I'm going to say here.

I'm 25 this year. I'm very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above.

You might say that I'm greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York.

My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married?

I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you?

Among those I've dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit.

If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden(?), $250k annual income is not enough.

I'm here humbly to ask a few questions:
1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches are only average-looking? I've met a few girls who don't have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys.

4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)

Ms. Pretty

A philosophical reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan:

 Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.

My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I'm not wasting time here.

From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.

Put the details aside, what you're trying to do is an exchange of "beauty" and "money" : Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.

However, there's a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can't be prettier year after year.

Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It's not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.

By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a "trading position".
If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or "leased".

Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.

J.P. Morgan CEO

I wonder if this is a true incident but nevertheless what this CEO had written is indeed very true. Many young and pretty girls out there who are seeking or dreaming about marrying a rich husband are actually thinking of trading their beauty for money but beauty is only skin deep and it will definitely deteriorate with time. And no amount of money can buy you beauty forever! Strangely, I have never thought about marrying a rich guy, not when I was young and definitely not now since I am already in no trading position. Well, I hope my own daughter will learn to depend on herself too.

My philosophy

Things are getting more or less back to normalcy at work. The mess created by "unplanningly" evacuating all the stocks from our Thailand warehouse to Singapore warehouse has been cleared and finally we can have more free time to start our cycle count from tomorrow. I am also going home at the normal hour of 5~6pm from this week and I am planning to start my exercise regime...maybe next week. I am still struggling to lose weight which is exceptionally difficult this time round due to my age, I guess. And having a hubby who is skinny by nature and loves to go for buffet dinner once every week is definitely not helping at all...Can't blame him actually...I love food too...*sigh*

I thought it's quite a pity that Demi Moore is splitting up with Ashton Kutcher...I sort of used her marriage (older woman with younger man) as a role model for my own when I remarried again to someone almost 10 years younger a year after her. She is like the ultimate example for all the cougars out there! And she is so damn good looking! But he still cheated on her with a much younger woman...so who said age doesn't matter?

To be honest, I had my reservations and I had my doubts initially. But after being happily married for 5 years and knowing that my hubby at this very moment still loves me and treasures me is good enough for me. Not that it won't hurt or it won't matter to me if later on my hubby cheat on me or something. I mean men are men, it's proven that they will be more easily succumbed to infidelity than women. So, if they will cheat, they will cheat, it doesn't matter if your hubby is younger than you or much older than you. My philosophy is: I would rather marry a younger man and have him cheat on me than to marry an old man and have him cheat on me too. Get it? It will hurt anyway, so why not do without the additional unjustified feeling of having the much older husband cheat on you, right? At least this is how I see it.

Another thing, I can take it much better if my hubby cheat on me with someone entirely new than to cheat on me with his ex-girlfriend or someone he knows as a friend all along. Explanation: If my husband cheats on me with someone entirely new, at least I know that the time before he met this someone new, he was loving me truly and solely. I will treasure those memories and may or may not leave him, depending if the cheat was just a fling or not and if he is repentful and wants me back or something...But if he cheats on me with someone he knows all along or his ex-girlfriend, then how  can I trust that the time when he was with me, he wasn't thinking of her and loving her? So, those times when he was with me will not be worth remembering at all! And I will not forgive him...totally out of the question.

That is why, I am so fed up with N who likes this boy knowing that he is still not over his ex. This is plain stupid. But I guess every young, naive girl will have to go through this at least once in her life, get hurt, cry it out and then learn from it. But she doesn't know that as a mother, I get hurt as well when my daughter gets hurt...*sigh*

A milestone year...

I am 40 years old now...birthday was yesterday. I think this year is quite significant to me, sort of like a milestone year for me...Accomplished many things that I have been wanting to do for so many years.
  1. I am finally going to attain MBA! This life agenda has been kept away at the back of my mind for at least 15 years and thanks to hubby who found this online program which was perfect for me and thanks to the Singapore Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong who sponsored 50% of my tuition fees, I am finally going to complete my studies by this coming weekend! It took me exactly 2.5 years!

  2. Hubby and I are going to have a baby boy in March! It is not easy for me to have another baby as I am already ligated. The only option I have is to do IVF and with God's blessings, I got pregnant with the 1st trial! Om Sai Ram! Thank you, Baba!

  3. Both hubby and I have settled back in Singapore after being away working in Hong Kong for the past 5.5 years. We are a complete family now with everyone dear to us under one roof!
  4. Hubby bought me the Tiffany diamond ring that I have been eyeing for the past 3 years! We will be celebrating our 5th anniversary this year!

I guess this will also be a milestone year for hubby and the kids too. N will be taking her GCE 'O' Levels examinations, D is in Secondary School now and hubby has completed his masters and looking for a new job. Exciting year for all of us!

Weekend Update - Movies

Didn't go bowling this weekend but stayed at home to catch up on my readings and submitted my assignments. I am into the last 4 weeks of the Operations Management module and is starting the Financial Reporting and Statement Analysis module this week. I am glad that hubby is also starting his studies at HKUST because I won't be the only one struggling with readings and assignments then. :p

While studying, we watched 3 old movies on HBO, "Juno", "Heartbreak Kid" and "You've Got Mail". I especially like "Heartbreak Kid" which was about this guy (Ben Stiller) who fell in love with another woman on his honeymoon. It was hilarious! But I think the same kind of situation does happen to many people. Not as extreme as in the movie maybe but haven't you have the feeling that the person you are with is not really the right one but you are just going through the motion? And when the right one comes along you just can't wait to jump out of the old relationship? Then you will become the heartless one, the bad guy, the fickle-minded one, blah, blah, blah.

"Can 2 persons fall in love and stay in love forever?"
"What should one do when he/she feels that he/she has made the wrong choice in marrying the wrong person?"
"To what extend should the marriage vows but kept?"

Although all 3 movies had different storyline, they all have breakups and divorces incorporated in their story. Juno's parents were divorced and the couple who was going to be the adoption parents to her baby also divorced in the end due to differences in their pursuits. Both Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in "You've Got Mail" broke up with their respective boyfriend and girlfriend. I think life is too short to be feeling sorry for yourself. So, in my opinion, it is really okay to walk out of that rotten relationship and start life afresh. I am glad for what I did. :)

Five years on...

Okay, 3rd anniversary is officially over but the wonderful sweet feeling of love is still lingering inside me...and it's Friday already! This week just flew by! Hubby and I celebrated our anniversary with a delicious sushi dinner at Elements. It wasn't a romantic candle-light dinner and there were no flowers but I enjoyed myself very much. Before dinner we went shopping for each other's presents. It was easy for me, Hubby just wanted a new electric shaver but I couldn't get anything that I like...so the present is still pending. ;)

Over dinner, we talked about our disappointment from not getting the apartment next door and consoled each other. We talked about our achievements these past 5 years together and what we want to achieve going forward. It feels really good to be sharing your life with someone you love, doesn't it? These past 5 years have been my best years so far and I am looking forward to many more good years to come. Thank you, darling. I am truly HAPPY. :)

FATE?

I am feeling better now, after sobbing for awhile last night about the loss. No point crying over split milk anymore. We have lost the deal 3 years ago and lost it again for being too conservative and for not having the power to decide on our own. We just have to wait for the next opportunity to come knocking and I hope the next time we will have more control and power on our own and won't have to listen to someone else's opinion. I think that I would prefer to regret my own decision rather than to regret having listened to someone else's. Maybe I am being wilful again which I have always been, but I always believe that one should have control on one's own fate and not wait for things to happen. People always say "It's fated, what is yours is yours and what is not will never be." But if one does not make the effort to do something, will one succeed just because it's fated? No, I don't believe so. Fate gives us choices to make and how we make them is entirely up to us. I have made some mistakes in my life so far but as long as it's my own decision, I have no regrets. I guess it's human nature. A child who fell down on his own won't cry so much but if he was being pushed, he will surely cry his lungs out and will take a long time to calm down. Reason? On top of the pain he felt from falling, he felt angry for being pushed.

Anyway, it's my wedding anniversary today, 3rd anniversary and hubby whispered to me "Happy Anniversary" last night as he was coming into bed after playing on the PS3 with D. It was way past midnight so technically, it was June 11 already. I have met hubby 5 and a half years ago, been together for 4 years and 9 months and married for 3 years exactly. So did fate play a part in our union? I would say yes, fate opened up the opportunity but after that, it was entirely up to us. Fate brought him to me, created an opportunity for us to get to know each other better through work, but if I hadn't been so bold and he hadn't been so daring, we would not have been together. Our story is well-loved by most of my girlfriends who even said that it would make a good romantic movie. Interested to find out more? I will blog about it in another post. :)

The Other Woman...

Went out with my god-brother C and his girlfriend S yesterday. C is married, his wife and son are in Singapore...yes, S is the other woman. Apparently, they have been having this on and off affair for the past 10 years at least and 2 years ago, C decided to buy an apartment in Hong Kong and live in with S. I have heard about their relationship from my godmother who was very upset about it. As a wife myself, I am of course disapproving of C and S but I was curious to meet S. I wanted to know what kind of woman would an established man like C fall for. I had thought that she must be a very sophisticated career woman who could assist C in his business or something but it turned out that she is just a very simple woman. She is better looking than C's wife though, but she was from mainland China and she cannot understand English. We had to converse in Cantonese the whole time when we were together so that she wouldn't feel out of place.

S has come from Chengdu 20 years ago, was once married and has a daughter who is studying in L.A. She is working as a stock broker and is helping C with his investments. The whole time we were together, C held her hand, served her food, referred to her as his wife to the waitress and looked really happy. He also praised her culinary skills and said they will invite us to have dinner at their home sometime. I couldn't help but wondered how would his wife feel if she finds out. Or does she care anymore? I am sure she must know something! Although I do not know her very well, I feel sympathetic towards her...but I think she has herself to blame. How can she let her husband stay oversea alone? Men can't take loneliness and they won't stay lonely, not especially when they are rich.

After saying our goodbyes for the night, hubby and I couldn't help but analysed S. We both agreed that she was quite different from C's wife who is a teacher. So, what makes S attractive to C? Her looks? Her culinary skills? I think it's because they have similar interests which is the stock market and also because she can accompany C on his business trips. I think it is very important for couples to have common interests and also to be together as much as possible. If not, be prepared to have a broken marriage...

Weekend thoughts

The weekend has been non-eventful except that I had finally went for a facial after coming to HK for 3 years. The reason I hadn't gone for a facial earlier was the fact that they will usually ask me to sign a package for 10 or 20 times and I will have to pay up at least HKD4000 in advance to get the "good deal". I have been cheated many times, so I really don't believe in such crap anymore. I go to facials when I think I need a facial and not because I have 9 more times to use so I must use it up before I go back to Singapore or before I forget about it. Furthermore, how would I know that the shop won't be suddenly gone after a couple of months? I have heard enough of such cases. Anyway on Saturday, I got myself a facial at a special trial price which is usually less than half the normal price for 1st time customers. When the facial lady asked me to join a package afterwards, I just said I am not local and I won't be staying in HK for long and rejected her as nicely as I could. I walked out of the beauty salon feeling triumphant because for the 1st time I was able to reject gimmicks like these by my own will. I am usually very weak when subjected to persuasive sales people and will usually end up buying more than I need. This time, I was SAFE. :D I figured I will visit another beauty salon and get myself another facial at trial price when I need a facial next time. There are plenty around for me to choose from anyway. And I think they give better service during the trial facial just so that you will join the package. I have a feeling that I am getting clever. HAHAHA.
Oh there was something else that happened over the weekend. Another long lost friend from NUS found me on Facebook and we started to catch up with each other chatting over MSN. I haven't spoken to her for like 15 years, and we used to hang out together a lot when we were in NUS. She is living in the Netherlands now with her American husband whom she had met online! WOW! I didn't know online match-making really works! So brave of her to try! I could never have tried. She said she started dating foreigners because she thought that most Singaporean men or Asian men will probably not like the fact that she was divorced before. Hmm...is that really true? Asian men will mind about such issues more than the foreigners(gweilo)? I asked my hubby last night about this and he got rather upset. He thinks that the perception is wrong and he thinks that Singaporean women or Asian women ought to give Asian men more chances. I started to wonder is it just him or are all Asian men more open-minded now? Why was there a general perception that Asian men are less open-minded than foreign men in the 1st place anyway? Hmm...
